Running Through Fatherhood: Finding Balance, Joy and Purpose with Stanislas
Fatherhood is a journey filled with responsibility, sacrifice, and unforgettable moments. For Stanislas Cofrade, a consultant, husband, father, and passionate trail runner, running has become more than just a sport. It is a source of balance, freedom, and personal growth.
This Father’s Day, we caught up with Stanislas to learn how he balances family life with ultra-distance training, the lessons running has taught him, and the special moments that have made both fatherhood and running even more meaningful.
A Passion That Became a Way of Life
Originally from France and now living in Asia for the past 14 years, Stanislas has built running into the rhythm of his daily life.
“I run almost every day,” he shares. “Whether it’s early in the morning, during lunchtime, or even running home from work, I try to make running fit around my schedule.”
While he completed his first half marathon back in 2012, it was in 2019 that his relationship with running truly evolved. Discovering trail running, the outdoors, and ultra-distance racing opened up a whole new world.
“Running is essential to my life balance,” he says. “It’s my time to disconnect, recharge, and experience a sense of pure joy and freedom.”
Balancing Fatherhood, Work and Training
Like many parents, Stanislas understands the challenge of balancing personal goals with family responsibilities.
“Managing work, family life, and intensive training is never easy, especially when overseas races are involved,” he explains. “I make a conscious effort to manage my time effectively and fully appreciate the moments I can dedicate to running.”
With weekly mileage ranging from 70 to 100 kilometres, consistency is key. Weekday runs are usually spent on the roads, while weekends are reserved for trail adventures around MacRitchie Reservoir and Bukit Timah.
Thankfully, he credits much of his ability to maintain this balance to the support system around him.
“I am fortunate to have a very supportive and understanding wife, which makes a significant difference.”
Inspiring the Next Generation
Although his son is only four years old, Stanislas has already started to see the impact his passion for running has had on him.
“I can see in my son’s eyes a growing interest in what I do,” he says. “He’s always proud when I bring home a medal, and he even tells me that he wants to earn one himself.”
That dream recently became reality when his son completed his very first race at the Great Green Run 2026 in Singapore.
“He absolutely loved the experience and has already asked when we can do it again, and next round together as a family with his mum.”
For Stanislas, the experience was a reminder that running is about much more than finishing times and race results.
One of the most important lessons he hopes to pass on is humility.
“Ultra-running teaches you that no matter how much you prepare, race day always brings unknown challenges. It teaches you to accept uncertainty, step outside your comfort zone, and embrace challenges in order to grow.”
The Moments That Matter Most
When asked about his most meaningful running memories as a father, two moments immediately come to mind.
The first was crossing the finish line at Ironman 70.3 Desaru and seeing his wife and son waiting for him.
“My son was too young to remember it, but seeing him at the finish line for the first time was incredibly meaningful.”
The second came much more recently.
“Watching your child complete his very first race at the Great Green Run was truly unforgettable.”
These moments serve as a reminder that while running may begin as a personal pursuit, its impact often extends far beyond the individual.
A Father’s Advice
For fathers looking to stay active while balancing family and work commitments, Stanislas offers a simple but important reminder:
“Never forget to take care of yourself. It’s one of the key success factors in being able to take care of others.”
Quick Strides
Favourite Brooks Shoe: Cascadia Elite
“As a trail runner, I naturally gravitate towards trail models. The Cascadia Elite offers an excellent combination of comfort, performance, durability, and stability. It delivers a fantastic running experience, and I truly enjoy using it.”
I need to add in one more favourite. It’s the Ghost Trail, as it’s a versatile hybrid shoe that delivers cross-terrain features for trail and road.Â
Favourite Running Route in Singapore:
“It depends on my mood. For flat runs, I enjoy East Coast Park. For elevation and trail training, you’ll usually find me at Bukit Timah.”
This Father’s Day, we’re celebrating dads like Stanislas who continue to pursue their passions while showing up for the people who matter most.Â
